Job Description

THEATRE GENERALIST: The Division of Arts and Letters invites an energetic, innovative and collaborative educator and theatre practitioner to join a progressive theatre faculty for a position in Theatre starting August, 2018, pending board approval.

This is a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position (1 year, renewable up to 3 years) beginning August 2018 in the Theatre department; possible tenure track, with the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, depending upon qualifications.

Essential Duties Summary

Teach undergraduate courses from the following areas:
Intro to Theatre; Stagecraft; Lighting Design; Scenic Design; Production; Voice and Diction; and Theatre/Arts Management.

Negotiable opportunities also exist to teach in the following areas: Directing; Basic Acting; Digital Video Capture and Editing; Survey of Fine Arts and various courses dealing with musical theatre.

Teaching load is 3/3. Opportunities are also available to direct at least one production during the academic year. The ideal candidate will also assist in student recruitment activities.

Required Qualifications

A terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Theatre and prior college-level teaching experience preferred; other degrees coupled with extensive professional experience considered.

Previous experience would include a broad-based knowledge necessary to function in more than one area of theatre production.

Specific skills that would be beneficial include, but are not limited to, scenic design, light design, sound design, AutoCAD, technical direction, directing and theatre/box office management. The successful candidate will support the mission, vision and core values of the University.

Minimum Required Education Master’s degree
Preferred Qualifications

Prior college-level teaching experience.
