Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations, the successful candidate will be a key member of McMurry University’s athletics media relations team. This position will permit the right person a unique chance to be a part of many exciting professional opportunities with the War Hawks’ intercollegiate athletics program as we “Develop Champions for Life.”

Essential Duties Summary

Oversee social media and video production (including video/images for stadium video board and score-table).

Assist Director of Athletics Communications and Operations with game-day set-up and operations needs.

Work with Director of Athletics.

Communications and Operations to maintain and grow the athletics web site.

Assist with hiring and training of student workers and interns.

Serve as primary contact for volleyball, men’s & women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf and baseball. Assist with other sports as necessary.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations and the Director of Athletics.

Occasional duties:
The Assistant SID will be asked to lend expertise in other areas essential to the overall success of the McMurry Athletics Communications and Operations office. Some of these aspects may include:
*Post-season athlete honors promotion.
*Ability to recognize and promote individual features, volunteerism and other newsworthy activities by our scholar-athletes.
*Broadcasting of games/events.
*Photography/video.
*Serve on campus and/or departmental committees.
*Graphic design.
*Assist with annual events like the Hall of Honor and Athletics Golf Tournament.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Communications, Sports Administration or a related field, as well as 2 years progressively-responsible experience in a collegiate sports information office. Internships and educational experience will be considered.

Expectations will include the following:
Must be proficient in Statcrew/Automatic Scorebook statistical programs; Volleyball and basketball expertise will be requirements of the job, as well as experience with Live Stats.

Proficient with In Design desktop publishing, Photoshop and other basic office software programs.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, while adhering to proper grammar and University editorial guidelines.

Minimum Required Education Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Communications, Sports Administration or a related field.

Familiarity with Sidearm is desirable, as well as with Stretch Internet.

Physical Demands

Evening, weekend and holiday work will be required as needed. Travel may also be required.
